About the Role
Amazon Strategic Account Services (SAS) Tech Organization is seeking an Applied Scientist II who can autonomously drive scientific innovations from research to production. You will develop sophisticated AI solutions serving both Amazon's global seller base and internal Marketplace Consultants. Working in a highly collaborative environment, you will leverage expertise in machine learning, operations research, and statistics to translate theoretical advances in large language models (LLMs), probabilistic modeling, and optimization into practical applications. The role requires strong prototyping and iterative improvement skills, bridging cutting-edge models with real-world applications while maintaining scientific rigor and measurable business impact.
Key responsibilities include leading the development of advanced AI solutions using deep learning, LLMs, and other machine learning techniques to transform seller operations and internal consultancy capabilities at scale; defining and driving the long-term scientific vision by translating complex business challenges into innovative technical solutions; designing and implementing advanced ML architectures combining reinforcement learning, causal inference, and predictive modeling; architecting next-generation recommendation and optimization systems that handle complex multi-dimensional constraints with robustness and interpretability; driving end-to-end AI application development from research through production, collaborating with engineering teams and conducting rigorous A/B experiments to validate impact; pioneering novel applications of foundation models and generative AI with sophisticated evaluation frameworks; and leading technical discussions across organizational boundaries while communicating complex scientific concepts to diverse stakeholders.
About the Team
The SAS team accelerates the full potential of Amazon Sellers by helping them navigate the increasing complexity of e-commerce. The team provides in-depth strategic consultancy using a data-driven, collaborative, and customer-focused approach to achieve commercial goals of Amazon Sellers.
Experience
- PhD, or a Master's degree with experience in building models for business applications
- Programming experience in at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
- Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing
- Experience training and deploying machine learning systems to solve large-scale optimization problems

- Excellent communication skills to lead technical discussions and collaborate across teams

Qualifications
- Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field
- Deep understanding of machine learning, reinforcement learning, causal inference, and optimization techniques
- Experience with large language models and generative AI applications is highly desirable
