About the Role
Join the Southern Region where your work truly matters. Covering Wessex, Sussex, and Kent, the Southern Region is one of the busiest and most dynamic parts of the railway. Our teams keep some of the UK's most vital passenger and freight routes moving every single day. This is a place where collaboration, innovation, and resilience are key and where your contribution will directly impact millions of journeys. We are entering an exciting new chapter as we integrate with train operating companies under one national leadership, creating even greater opportunities to shape the future of rail. From supporting major modernisation programmes to improving performance for local communities and enhancing safety across complex operational environments, Southern offers a fast-paced, rewarding environment to grow your career and make a real difference.
In this role, you will support the application of asset management processes in accordance with functional policy to achieve financial and output targets. You will schedule examinations, inspections, monitoring and assessment of assets and evaluate reports in line with policy, systems, and standards. You will implement mitigation measures where proposed management actions are deferred and specify and prioritise actions to address defects, comments, and other issues raised in reports for inclusion in work plans.

Producing route-specific and asset type management regimes, progressing mitigations if items are deferred, and undertaking engineering analysis and risk assessments to support asset management and scheme development including business cases and whole life cost analysis will be key responsibilities.
Monitoring and evaluating asset condition and capability trend data, failure precursors, and informing examination, maintenance, strengthening, risk mitigation, and renewal plans to efficiently achieve corporate objectives will be essential. You will provide support to the specification and development of enhancement schemes and manage the interface with network capability programmes.
Determining mitigation actions necessary to reduce the impact of adverse weather on asset performance, maintaining asset data within company systems, providing engineering support and participating in incident investigations, and assisting with the review of proposals from other disciplines or external organisations will also be part of your role.
Additionally, you will monitor the technical development of projects to ensure renewal requirements are sufficient and correctly interpreted, assist with approval in principle of designs, and support acceptance of detailed design certification.
