About the Role
Much Better Adventures books small-group adventure holidays run by local, independent guides in wild places around the world. As a certified B Corp, the company is committed to getting more people into the world's wildest places, supporting local businesses that protect them, and proving that adventure travel can be a force for good. You will work alongside another Assistant Management Accountant and report directly to the Financial Controller. Responsibilities will be shared and flexible based on strengths, interests, workload, and business needs, evolving as you settle in. The key focus is on teamwork, trust, and ownership. Being part of a remote-first team, you must be motivated to work collaboratively and perform to the highest standards independently. Attitude, diligence, and a strong sense of ownership are valued more than explicit experience. You will be expected to proactively communicate, flag issues early, learn continuously, and support teammates without prompting.
Your responsibilities include supporting and ultimately owning a 5-day month-end process end to end, covering payroll journals, accruals, sales and commissions postings, bank and balance sheet reconciliations, OPEX accruals and prepayments, management accounts preparation, and preparing finance slides and commentary for the board deck. You will prepare departmental cost reporting and variance analysis within 2 days of month-end close, assist with regulatory reporting, support the audit process by preparing working files and responding to auditor queries, process supplier payments and manage Xero and Airwallex payment flows, handle customer refunds and employee expenses, calculate local host payments liaising with Operations and Expansion teams, assess foreign currency requirements and book forward contracts weekly, manage cash balances ensuring spare cash is held in interest-bearing accounts, prepare and file VAT returns, and prepare payroll.
