About the Role
We are seeking talented and passionate Assistant Educational Psychologists to join our Access and Inclusion Department. This role will enhance the Mental Health Support Team’s (MHST) early intervention mental health offer to schools.
MHSTs are a national initiative in response to the Government’s plans to transform children and young people’s mental health provision. They have three core functions:
- Delivering evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties
- Supporting the senior mental health lead in the delivery of their whole school/college approach
- Giving timely advice to school and college staff and signposting to external specialist services
The Redbridge MHST is an Educational Psychology led team working alongside the Redbridge Educational Well-Being Team (REWT) and the established Educational Psychology Service (EPS) within the Access and Inclusion department. The team provides support across multiple levels in the borough, ranging from individual intervention and whole school involvement to borough-wide campaigns.
As an Assistant Educational Psychologist, you will work under supervision as part of a dynamic team where evidence-based interventions and innovative approaches to supporting children and young people (CYP) are encouraged. You will develop knowledge and practice skills to employ a range of evidence-based interventions for common mental health difficulties through direct individual and group support for children, young people, and their parents. You will also have opportunities to engage in whole school projects and borough-wide campaigns such as trauma informed practice training, peer support in schools, and the ‘Break the Stigma’ campaign.
The Assistant Educational Psychologist will:
- Assist educational psychologists in supporting the needs of children and young people
- Conduct supervised consultations and assessments involving children/young people, educational settings, and parents/carers
- Develop and practice evidence-based skills under supervision to work directly with children, young people, and families
- Promote well-being at a whole school level and support project delivery led by the MHST, including delivering training, facilitating interventions, event coordination, and research contributions
- Collaborate closely with educational settings and colleagues across the borough
Experience
Experience working with children and young people in educational or mental health settings is desirable but not essential. A passion for supporting mental health and well-being is required.
About you
You will be flexible, adaptable, and passionate about working with children and young people in educational settings. You should be committed to evidence-based practice and able to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
Qualifications
A relevant degree in psychology or a related field is required. This role offers supervision from an Educational Psychologist and support for progression to an Educational Psychologist doctorate if desired.
