About the Role
The Assistant Quantity Surveyor will support the Commercial Team within the business unit (Pods). This is a developing role offering a great opportunity to build a career with structured training and professional development. Key responsibilities include assisting with procurement by issuing tender enquiries, completing tender evaluations, preparing recommendations, and managing contract particulars and documentation. You will prepare and monitor cashflow forecasts for projects, manage application, certification and invoice schedules for subcontractors and suppliers, and assist with client application preparation and variations. Additional duties include preparing Job Cost Reports (JCRs), monitoring Supply Chain KPIs, maintaining records and tasks for the Commercial Department, inputting data for analysis, and providing commercial and project administration support to help achieve the Pod's overall objectives.
Experience
For entry-level trainee roles, no previous work experience is necessary. Assistant level roles require a minimum of three years' experience in a contracting organisation, whether as a Main Contractor or Specialist Subcontractor. Career changers from Mechanical or Electrical Trades backgrounds, or those with finance experience (e.g. accounting, banking), may also be considered.

You should have a willingness to learn and good communication skills. Enthusiasm for developing a career in quantity surveying and commercial management is essential. Candidates should be motivated to engage in structured training and professional development opportunities.
Qualifications
Entry-level candidates should have a minimum of GCSEs with above average grades in mathematics, Information Technology, and other core subjects. Candidates completing A Levels (or equivalent) may join via an apprenticeship-style pathway commencing with a part-time degree or degree equivalent qualification. Assistant level candidates may develop further through part-time NVQ, Degree, degree equivalent, or professional qualifications, depending on existing credentials.
