About the Role
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful NHS trusts, providing a wide range of hospital and community services across south London and specialist care to patients from further afield. The Trust includes five major hospitals and community services, with a reputation for clinical excellence, teaching, and research. Evelina London Children’s Hospital, part of the Trust, delivers specialist paediatric services including cardiac, renal, and critical care across south east England.

The Assistant Service Manager will support the Service Manager in operationally managing the Paediatric Neurosciences department, delivering a range of services including medical secretarial support to patients, consultants, and clinical teams. This role involves leadership and expert advice to administrative teams to ensure high standards of care and continuous service improvement. The post may also include management of outpatient departments, overseeing day-to-day services in line with objectives, targets, quality standards, and resource constraints.

The role requires close collaboration with service leads, clinicians, managers, and administrative staff to support change and service development. The Assistant Service Manager will coordinate best practices and ensure consistency in administrative and medical secretary procedures. Key responsibilities include line management and training of junior staff, overseeing performance and clinic scheduling, managing leave and capacity, responding to patient concerns, data quality monitoring, and participation in service improvement initiatives.

The Children’s Neurosciences department provides comprehensive tertiary services including Neurology, Rehabilitation, and Neurodisability for children from South East Thames and beyond, serving a population of over 9 million. The department works closely with Neurosurgical colleagues at Kings College Hospital within the Kings Health Partners network.
