US Annualized Base Salary Range: $66,300 - $75,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level, and equity. Note: US salary range does not align with salary ranges in other countries when converted.

About the Role
The BMC Academic Journals group supports researchers in communicating and advancing discovery by providing a trusted environment for sharing discoveries, data, and research stories transparently and efficiently. We are seeking an Associate Publisher to manage a portfolio of open access journals in Cell Biology, Genetics, and Neuroscience, including society and proprietary journals. Reporting to an Executive Publisher, you will be responsible for the management, strategic development, and success of these journals, liaising with internal teams, external Editors, and the scientific community. This hybrid role is based in New York or London to support effective collaboration and align with business needs.

Responsibilities
- Drive portfolio development and management, demonstrating accountability and delivering results.
- Develop and implement annual development plans, exploring business development opportunities.
- Manage annual targets for journal submissions, publications, transfers, and turnaround times.
- Deliver best-in-class author experience and foster engagement with Editors-in-Chief, Editorial Board Members, and Societies.
- Adapt to a fast-paced, evolving environment, managing changing priorities and challenges.
- Resolve pre- and post-publication issues related to authorship, scope, ethics, misconduct, and policies.
- Support data-driven decision-making and strategic planning through information gathering and synthesis.
- Manage contract negotiations with external parties, utilizing knowledge of financial profit & loss statements and forecasting.
- Build strong relationships with colleagues, researchers, and external Editors, attending meetings as needed.
- Stay informed about changes in the research community and publishing industry.

Requirements

Experience
- Educated to Bachelor's degree level or equivalent, preferably in life, biomedical, or health sciences.
- Proven ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with academic and industry researchers.
- Strong technical skills with sharp attention to detail.
- Experience in managing projects and meeting deadlines.
- Previous experience in academic publishing (books or journals) is desirable but not essential.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field is essential.
