About the Role
The Quantitative Strategies team is a core part of Javelin Global Commodities, acting as the vital link between commercial, functional, and technical areas of the organisation. Embedded on the trading floor with a front office focus, the team is involved in all stages of deal development from conception to execution, advising on risk and managing the firm’s most complex trades. This role offers a broader scope and influence compared to traditional quantitative research roles at investment banks or hedge funds, bridging trading, logistics, financing, and operational activities. The work environment is fast-paced and challenging, with varied problems to solve.

Key responsibilities include assisting commercial teams with trade valuation and risk understanding, building and enhancing pricing models and instruments to support expanding business lines and new trading strategies, analysing and advising on non-commodity trade risks such as credit, VAR, funding, and FX, evaluating post-trade performance and hedging strategies, supporting operations, logistics, and settlements teams by troubleshooting and advising on contract terms, and driving efficiency through automation of business processes. Collaboration with the Technology team is essential to improve infrastructure such as trade management and physical commodity scheduling platforms.

Requirements

Experience
Minimum 3 years relevant work experience, with at least 2 years in the commodities domain. Proven experience in Python programming, including developing pricing models and risk tools. Familiarity with options pricing theory, probability, and calculus is essential. Prior knowledge of Beacon, SecDb, Athena, or Quartz is advantageous but not required.

About you
A proactive and inquisitive individual with a strong analytical background in mathematics, engineering, or science. Market-specific knowledge in commodities or banking sectors is preferred. Strong developer credentials with experience in Python and familiarity with GIT, co-pilot, and VS-code are welcomed. You should be adaptable to changing business priorities with a dynamic and pragmatic mindset, able to apply skills across multiple commodity classes and business lines. Excellent communication skills and commercial acumen are required to work effectively with traders and support teams. You must be able to work collaboratively, manage projects independently and with others, and thrive in a fast-paced, pressurised environment.

Qualifications
Relevant degree or equivalent experience in a quantitative discipline such as mathematics, engineering, or science. Strong programming skills in Python are mandatory. Additional qualifications or certifications related to quantitative finance or commodities trading are beneficial but not essential.
