About the Role
Join our team at the Guardian and be part of a diverse and inclusive global organisation delivering fearless, investigative journalism that holds power to account. We are seeking a Server Side Developer to join our Developer Experience stream on a 12 month fixed term contract. You will contribute to building a new Developer Experience platform that enhances the efficiency of the Guardian’s engineering team by improving observability, deployment capabilities, and simplifying software development.

As a server side engineer, you will primarily program in Scala and TypeScript running in AWS, but will use the best tools for each problem. You will work within a cross-functional team empowered to rapidly iterate and release new features. Collaboration is key; you will pair program within your team and work closely with developers across other product teams. You will be involved in both product and technical decisions and encouraged to share your expertise while continuing your own growth.

Development of digital products is central to the Guardian. Much of our code is openly available on GitHub, and many projects are widely used in the Open Source community. Our developers regularly attend and present at conferences, reflecting our commitment to innovation and community engagement.

Experience
- Demonstrated experience programming in Scala and TypeScript
- Experience working with AWS
- Experience with Scala back-end development and database and streaming technologies
- Experience working in a cross-functional agile team environment
