About the Role
Working under the supervision of a Band 6 Occupational Therapist in ward and outpatient settings, you will provide complex clinical assessments of biomechanical, sensory, psychological, cognitive, perceptual, and interpersonal deficits affecting individuals with cancer, their families, and carers using clinical reasoning. You will develop and implement individual specialised therapeutic rehabilitation programmes tailored to patients’ needs based on activity analysis using a client-centred, problem-solving approach. The role includes developing and delivering treatment and educational groups for people with cancer and their carers. You will carry out complex functional and risk assessments to provide appropriate equipment and teach patients, carers, and staff safe and correct usage to maximise safety and independence both in hospital and home environments. Assessing environmental risks and prescribing equipment and adaptations in patients’ homes, which may involve lone working, is also required. Additionally, you will undertake risk assessments related to manual handling in compliance with the Trust’s Manual Handling Policy. Maintaining contemporaneous, high-quality patient documentation and writing formal reports necessary for care package implementation and home equipment provision to enable safe discharge and ongoing rehabilitation are key responsibilities.
Experience
Experience working in clinical settings, preferably with patients affected by cancer, is desirable. Ability to work under supervision and manage complex clinical assessments is essential.
About you
You should be a motivated and compassionate professional with strong clinical reasoning skills. Ability to work independently, including lone working when assessing home environments, is required. You must be committed to delivering patient-centred care and working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Qualifications
Registered Occupational Therapist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Relevant professional qualifications and adherence to Trust policies and procedures are required.
