About the Role
As a Band 5 Rotational Dietitian, you will practice autonomously within a rotation, delivering high quality clinical care with support from supervisors as needed. You will be proactive in clinical decision making, using your theoretical and practical knowledge to assess, diagnose, treat, and discharge service users in specialist areas. Your role includes undertaking holistic nutritional assessments, calculating nutritional requirements, and interpreting biochemistry, anthropometry, clinical conditions, and other physical parameters for patients with complex needs. You will be experienced in using anthropometric equipment such as bioelectrical impedance, callipers, and hand grip dynamometer, and interpreting the results.

You will develop evidence-based dietetic treatment plans and provide nutritional advice to service users and their carers, communicating complex and sensitive information clearly. You will liaise with catering staff to ensure dietary needs are met, assist chefs with special meal preparation, and adapt menu cycles to suit service users, making recommendations to the Catering Manager.

You will demonstrate knowledge of disease patterns, condition progression markers, and treatment options. Participation in multidisciplinary team meetings and ward rounds to provide dietetic advice is essential. You will recommend and advise on the prescription of cost-effective ACBS products including oral nutritional supplements, enteral feeding products, and gluten-free products in line with SW London Alliance prescribing guidelines.

Maintaining accurate written and electronic patient records, including statistical activity data, is a key responsibility. You will manage distressing situations involving terminally ill and very unwell patients with professionalism and compassion. Flexibility in service delivery is required, including providing clinical cover for colleagues during absences.

Leadership responsibilities include participating in recruitment and selection of Dietetic assistants, clinical supervision of student Dietitians after appropriate training, and taking a leadership role in caseload management to ensure safe practice. You will monitor Key Performance Indicators and contribute data for specialist service reports.

You will contribute to audit and service evaluation to support service improvement, critically analyse research findings, and ensure practice remains evidence-based and up to date. You may research, develop, produce, and publish evidence-based departmental literature in your area of specialisation, including engaging patient forums.

Maintaining up-to-date skills and knowledge through ongoing learning and development is expected. You will educate healthcare team members on nutritional management, deliver education sessions to patients and carers, and review and develop dietary information and education materials based on evidence-based practice.
