About the Role
We are seeking a Speech and Language Therapist who is passionate about working with people with Learning Disabilities in creative, functional, and person-centred ways. You will deliver a Speech and Language Therapy service at both universal and individual levels as clinically required. Your work will focus on promoting choice, independence, and inclusion, reflecting the key principles of Valuing People (DOH 2002), Valuing People Now, the Human Rights Act, and the Preparing for Adulthood Agenda. This role aims to enable students to achieve their academic, social, and employment potential.

You will maintain and model the highest level of respect for students and their families, promoting person-centred, neurodiverse-affirming, and collaborative working practices that uphold students' human rights, dignity, and individual choices. You will collaborate with external agencies such as schools, work placements, and social services to ensure smooth transitions of students’ communication and eating and drinking information both into and out of the college.

Key responsibilities include assessing students’ communication, eating and drinking, and learning environment needs using a range of formal and informal assessments and observations. You will manage your clinical caseload independently, including the use of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC). Additionally, you will enable teaching and support staff to deliver the curriculum at an appropriate language and communication level by contributing to support plans, delivering staff training, coaching, and conducting class observations.

Experience
- Experience working with young people who have moderate, severe, profound, and multiple learning disabilities and Autism.
- Ability to work autonomously and competently in communication, including Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), and eating and drinking.
- Experience within an educational setting with sound competencies in eating and drinking and communication work including AAC.

Qualifications
- Degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent.
- Registration with the UK Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
