About the Role
The Disabled Children’s Short Breaks and Outreach Service is a children’s centre dedicated to supporting disabled children aged 8-18 with a broad spectrum of needs. We provide Short Break sessions after school, during weekends and school holidays. Befriending groups consist of small groups of children and young people who access activities in the community. As a Befriender, you will work directly with disabled children to support their participation in community-based activities and sessions within our centres. Your role will include overseeing medication administration, supporting and advising service users, advocating on their behalf when necessary, and reporting any changes in behaviour or injuries to the Team Manager. You will help promote independence and life skills, support social interaction, friendships, and assist the group leader in planning and facilitating safe, enjoyable activities. Working as part of a small team, you will provide a reliable and efficient befriending service to disabled children in Thurrock.
Experience
At least 2 years’ experience working with disabled children in a professional setting or holding a relevant Level 3 childcare qualification or equivalent.

Committed to supporting disabled children and young people, able to work flexibly including evenings, weekends and school holidays. Reliable team player with good communication skills and the ability to advocate for service users.
Qualifications
Relevant Level 3 childcare qualification or equivalent is required. A Disclosure and Barring Service Check at Enhanced level with Children's Barred List will be required for this post.
