About the Role
The Casework Officer supports the delivery of disclosure and casework activity across the J9 Disclosures function, contributing to the preparation, management and integrity of material relating to litigation, inquiries, Subject Access Requests (SARs) and civil claims involving Specialist Military Units (SMU). This role ensures casework outputs are underpinned by accurate, complete and auditable records, enabling Defence to meet its statutory, legal and information governance requirements.

Working as part of the casework team, you will support the collection, organisation and preparation of material for disclosure and external release. This includes maintaining structured case files, ensuring documentation is correctly indexed, labelled and recorded, and enabling timely retrieval of information in response to legal, Parliamentary and inquiry-driven tasking. You will contribute directly to the production of disclosure bundles and evidential material under the direction of Casework Officers and LEGADs.

The role maintains robust document control and information management processes across J9 casework, ensuring records are held within secure, structured and auditable systems. Responsibilities include governance of SharePoint libraries, application of metadata and naming conventions, management of permissions and version control, and oversight of document storage and retrieval. Through this, you will support the traceability, defensibility and integrity of SMU case handling.

Additionally, you will provide casework coordination and secretariat support, including managing correspondence, maintaining case trackers and ensuring information flows are controlled and up to date across multiple workstreams. Supporting knowledge continuity by maintaining authoritative templates, records and document sets will ensure consistency and reduce duplication or loss of information within high-volume casework.

Under direction, you will assist with preparation of material for disclosure, including document collation, formatting, indexing and basic redactions, ensuring outputs meet required standards and are handled in accordance with security classifications and legal guidance.

Operating within a high-tempo, scrutiny-driven environment, the role requires strong attention to detail, organisational discipline and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will contribute directly to the efficient delivery of casework, the production of defensible disclosure outputs, and the maintenance of a secure and compliant information environment, supporting Defence’s ability to meet its legal and statutory obligations.
