As part of King’s Health Partners, the Oncology and Haematology Clinical Trials (OHCT) team delivers a large portfolio of Phase II and III trials, including early phase studies, across multiple tumour groups.

As a Clinical Trials Start Up Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in leading the initiation and set-up of commercial and non-commercial clinical trials within OHCT. Your responsibilities will include managing feasibility assessments, reviewing clinical trial budgets, conducting financial negotiations with sponsors and Contract Research Organisations (CROs), and ensuring the financial viability of trials. You will collaborate closely with King’s Health Partners Clinical Trials Office (KHP-CTO), Guy’s and St Thomas’ R&D, support departments, research teams, and investigators to ensure trials open efficiently and on time.

In addition to trial set-up, you will oversee coordination of amendments, ensuring they are tracked, processed, and implemented within appropriate timeframes. You will also line manage the OHCT Imaging Coordinator and Roving Data Managers, and deliver training on trial set-up topics. This role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and the ability to manage complex projects and relationships within a dynamic research environment.

Requirements

Experience
- Significant experience in clinical research coordination, managing own portfolio of studies
- Experience running clinical trials including budget negotiations and liaison with external departments
- Knowledge and experience handling complex relationships
- Experience mentoring, developing, and supervising junior staff
- Experience teaching, assessing, and supervising others
- Experience managing complex projects
- Desirable: Experience within oncology and haematology clinical services
- Desirable: Demonstrable managerial or team lead experience
- Desirable: Experience of financial management

About you
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective relationships with a variety of staff and external bodies
- Ability to provide highly specialist advice to all relevant stakeholders
- Awareness of changing trends within research and clinical trials
- Up to date knowledge relevant to clinical research and good clinical practice (GCP)
- Ability to set direction, prioritise workload, and meet deadlines
- Strong analytical and judgement skills including understanding complex statistical and numerical data
- Ability to lead, teach, supervise, and mentor others in clinical research delivery
- Confident and articulate with strong negotiation and presentation skills
- Desirable: Ability to carry out audits
- Flexible, positive approach to work
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic

Qualifications
- Master’s degree in life sciences or related field OR demonstrable equivalent theoretical knowledge/experience
- GCP certificate
- Evidence of continuous professional development
- Desirable: Teaching experience
- Desirable: Project Management Qualification (e.g. PRINCE2)
