About the Role
As a Commercial Manager at Network Rail, you will provide post-contract commercial management of medium value and medium risk activities, as well as support pre-contract activities within the project delivery team's scope of work. You will offer specialist commercial advice, guidance, and recommendations to mitigate commercial risks and ensure compliance with Network Rail's corporate governance and rules.
Key responsibilities include monitoring cost reporting within Network Rail's framework, managing all commercial aspects of allocated projects, leading contract valuations, and influencing contractor commercial behaviours. You will assess and certify payments, challenge costs, provide proactive advice on change management, and produce all necessary documentation in line with delegated authority.
Additional duties involve producing client invoices, identifying commercial risks and claims, providing management information and analysis, issuing contractual notices, managing project close-out activities, supporting procurement and estimating resources, and participating in price negotiations and risk assessments.

Experience
- Demonstrable experience in commercially managing investment projects
- Relevant experience in railway or construction industry commercial management
- Good understanding of railway and construction industry forms of contract
- Strong negotiation skills

- Capable of working independently initially with a view to building and leading a team of commercial professionals

Qualifications
- Educated to degree standard in a related subject (desirable)
- Membership of a relevant professional institute or chartered status (desirable)
- Significant experience within a generalist commercial environment (desirable)
- Awareness of industry issues (desirable)
