About the Role
Working within Clifford Chance's Clearance Centre, you will be part of a team responsible for managing the intake of all business, including conflicts of interest and compliance issues across the firm's global practice covering Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and supporting the US team. Your role involves liaising with partners and lawyers to identify and manage conflicts of interest, often within complex, high-value transactions. You will work closely with senior members of the Clearance Centre, including General Counsel, and have opportunities to develop your skills through formal training, mentoring, and on-the-job learning.

The Clearance Centre is a key part of the firm's risk management function, reporting to the General Counsel. Your primary responsibility will be to advise on the acceptance of new business, considering legal, regulatory, reputational, and commercial conflict implications. You will assess mandates for conflicts, consult stakeholders on commercial and strategic issues, determine conditions for mandate acceptance, analyse conflict management systems, and respond to queries from partners and lawyers. You will also contribute to improving documentation, processes, and systems, and utilise AI tools to enhance efficiency and focus on high-value work.

This role offers exposure to multidisciplinary work with experts across the firm, involvement in matters frequently featured in financial and business press, and the opportunity to become a recognised expert in the field.

Requirements

Experience
Experience in compliance, ideally with knowledge of conflict of interest rules gained in a leading international law firm. Proven ability to gather and analyse information methodically and solve problems practically. Sound commercial awareness and pragmatic problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing substantial workloads and prioritising competing demands.

About you
Excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills. Strong communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships across the firm. Adaptability to new processes and technologies. Commercially minded with good operational business acumen and a proactive approach to continuous improvement. Ability to remain calm under pressure and embrace challenges.

Qualifications
A law degree or equivalent (mandatory). Further legal qualifications are helpful but not essential.
