About the Role
Coventry City Council is seeking a Conservation & Heritage Officer to join the Planning Policy and Environment team. You will deliver a high-quality conservation service that supports the City Council's vision and objectives for a growing and sustainable city. Your responsibilities will include providing expert professional advice on conservation and heritage matters to Members, Senior Officers, external partners, and the public. You will establish and maintain strong relationships with heritage bodies and assist with bids for external funding to support heritage improvements. Monitoring the condition of heritage assets and areas, you will advise on or initiate appropriate actions for their repair, maintenance, and enhancement. Additionally, you will develop and maintain up-to-date Conservation Area Appraisals for the city. This role requires a proactive approach to conservation within the planning system and active engagement with a range of stakeholders to promote and protect Coventry's heritage assets.
Experience
Proven experience advising on conservation principles, practice, and law, including working with listed buildings and conservation areas. Experience in both site delivery and providing expert analysis and guidance is essential. Candidates with knowledge of above-ground and below-ground heritage and its role in the planning system are highly desirable. Experience providing technical advice to diverse audiences and working with external bodies to promote heritage assets and support voluntary and community projects is important.
About you
You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex conservation analysis clearly to both lay and expert audiences. You should demonstrate innovative problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach to working with a range of stakeholders. A strong understanding of the development process, including economics, cost planning, valuation, and contract forms related to heritage assets, is required. You must have the Right to Work in the UK as sponsorship is not offered for this role.
Qualifications
You must hold a Degree or postgraduate diploma in Conservation. Evidence of preparation of conservation policy and related publications, including Conservation Area Appraisals, will be beneficial.
