About the Role
Amazon builds fast, and behind every new Fulfilment Center, Sortation Center, and Delivery Station is a cost estimate that must be accurate, defensible, and ready when decisions need to be made. We are seeking a Construction Cost Engineering Manager to deliver cost engineering services to Amazon's North America Design & Construction stakeholders. You will produce estimates, cost models, and analytical outputs that inform capital investment decisions across Amazon's North American infrastructure network.

This role is high-impact, high-variety, and technically engaging. You will deliver a range of estimates across a diverse portfolio of building types and project scopes, from multi-site retrofit programs to one-off capital projects. Each engagement presents unique analytical challenges due to site conditions, design parameters, and scope ambiguity.

You will partner with cross-functional teams from early concept sketches through bid-ready construction documents, combining construction domain expertise with collaborative problem-solving to produce cost intelligence that directly shapes business outcomes. The core deliverable is construction cost estimates within Amazon's Global Procurement Organization, Sourcing Excellence pillar.

This role also offers opportunities to expand into broader cost engineering disciplines such as should-cost modeling to anchor supplier negotiations and value engineering initiatives that challenge specifications and drive design-to-cost outcomes.

You will work closely with AI and Market Intelligence Solutions, leveraging AI-powered tools daily to accelerate analysis, build scalable costing datasets, and contribute to the development of next-generation automation that multiplies the team's reach.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver independent, bottom-up construction cost estimates for NA Design & Construction stakeholders across Amazon's building portfolio, including retrofit, expansion, and new-build projects
- Develop cost estimates from early-stage concept inputs through RFP-ready construction drawing sets, adapting methodology and analytical depth to available information at each project phase
- Build and maintain programmatic estimating templates for multi-site programs where scope consistency allows template-driven efficiency
- Produce one-off bottom-up estimates for projects with unique site conditions, non-standard design, and scope ambiguity
- Generate high-level ROMs for early-stage project exploration when data is limited and design direction is evolving
- Leverage AI-powered tools as a default part of your workflow for data gathering, cost benchmarking, and pattern recognition while applying expert judgment on complex scopes
- Contribute to scalable AI solution development by curating project data, validating model outputs, and identifying automation opportunities
- Collaborate with preconstruction managers, design engineers, and category managers to gather site-specific inputs, validate assumptions, and communicate cost risks
- Peer review estimates and cost models produced by teammates to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with market pricing
- Maintain and update cost data libraries with latest market bids, labor rates, and material pricing
- Expand into should-cost modeling, benchmarking, and value engineering activities over time as part of broader Cost Engineering services

About the Team
Cost Engineering answers one fundamental question for Amazon: Are we paying the right price? We combine deep technical expertise with advanced analytical methodologies including should-cost modeling, cost estimation, market intelligence, and cost driver decomposition to deliver transparent, fact-based insights that empower Amazon teams to make confident decisions. Our vision is to make cost transparency a strategic capability across the organization, covering billions in managed spend globally with exponential growth since the team formation in 2022.

Requirements

Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
- Experience as an Architect, Engineer, Construction Manager, Development Manager, Owner's project management representative, or in other Commercial Development and Construction related disciplines
- Experience operating within at least two construction disciplines such as Contracting, Owners Representation, Architecture, Design and Engineering, Commercial Development, or construction cost analysis and control
- Experience in project and contracts management within construction
- Experience delivering forecasting, budgeting, variance analysis, and interpreting data results
- Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools (e.g., SQL, MS Access, Essbase, Cognos) and financial systems (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Lawson, JD Edwards)
- Comfortable working with AI and automation as an integral part of workflow, including using AI-powered tools for cost benchmarking, estimating, modeling, and pattern recognition
- Experience contributing to AI tool development in estimating or procurement contexts is a strong differentiator
- Experience managing structured cost data and supporting back-end estimation workflows, including organizing inputs, maintaining cost libraries, and ensuring data integrity
- Proficiency with CostX or equivalent takeoff and cost modeling software is strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Amazon's internal estimating systems is a plus but not required; demonstrated ability to quickly learn new platforms and maintain disciplined data management is essential

About You
You are a technically skilled professional with strong analytical judgment and collaborative problem-solving abilities. You embrace AI and automation as essential tools to enhance efficiency and accuracy. You thrive in a dynamic environment with diverse project scopes and enjoy delivering cost intelligence that directly influences business decisions. You are disciplined in data management and committed to maintaining up-to-date market cost intelligence.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field as noted above
- Proven experience in construction-related disciplines and cost engineering
- Strong analytical and communication skills to collaborate effectively across teams
- Ability to adapt estimating methodologies to varying project phases and information availability
