About the Role
This Consultant Clinical Oncology post is based at the Guys & St Thomas NHS Foundation Trust Cancer Centre and serves the South East London Cancer Network. The role involves providing expert clinical oncology services focused on prostate, breast, and additional oncology sites (AOS). You will work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) and joint-clinic settings, supported by other oncologists. Clinical responsibilities include diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients across hospital and community settings, including domiciliary consultations and care under the National Health Service Act 1977 where applicable. Inpatient care is delivered via a ward attending rota system shared among consultants, requiring approximately 2 weeks of ward cover annually during which routine work is suspended.

Teaching and training form a key part of the role, with expectations to participate in undergraduate teaching and contribute to the education and supervision of junior doctors, including acting as an Educational Supervisor. Research and clinical trial involvement is essential, supporting the Trust’s commitment to advancing oncology care.

Consultants are also expected to engage in clinical governance activities such as audits, guideline development, and risk management, as well as contribute to the management and development of clinical services. Flexibility and a proactive approach to the evolving needs of the service and Trust policies are required to ensure high standards of patient care and service delivery.
