About the Role
AWS Infrastructure Services is responsible for the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring continuous cloud service availability. As a Controls Design Engineer within the Data Center Global Services (DCGS) Controls Design Engineering (CDE) team, you will focus on Building Management System (BMS) and Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) design standards across AWS's global data center portfolio. You will own BMS/EPMS specifications, Controls Points Lists (CPL), Basis of Design (BOD) documents, and scope of work to ensure consistency and excellence in data center control systems.
You will serve as the primary contact for multiple stakeholders across new construction builds, legacy site enhancements, data center support projects, and special initiatives. Your work will drive significant cost reductions by minimizing change orders, eliminating scope gaps, reducing schedule delays, optimizing vendor pricing, and decreasing labor costs through standardization and clear documentation.
The role involves technical leadership in building operations, mechanical plant strategies, BMS/EPMS programming, control diagrams, industrial HVAC systems, electrical lineups, and complex environmental and electrical concepts. You will collaborate with construction teams, controls programmers, engineers, and project managers to deliver high-quality projects. Additionally, you will lead vendor selection, review technical documentation, and support operations in high-security, mission-critical environments.
This position requires global travel of approximately 25% to manage and support project initiatives. You will work in an inclusive culture that values bold ideas, innovation, and customer obsession while contributing to the world’s largest cloud infrastructure.
Experience
- 4+ years of industrial or commercial engineering in mission critical facilities such as data centers, power generation, or oil and gas facilities
- 4+ years of engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Experience researching new designs, technologies, and construction methods for data center equipment and facilities
- Good understanding of electrical diagrams, control diagrams, building operations, control circuits, industrial HVAC

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred
- Professional Engineer License preferred
- Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
- Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment
- Ability to read, interpret, and create construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
