About the Role
Spotlight Sports Group is a global media and technology company dedicated to delivering trusted, customer-driven experiences across global racing and sports betting. With over 40 years of heritage and a portfolio including Racing Post, Pickswise, myracing, and Free Super Tips, we combine bold innovation with award-winning content, data, and digital products.
This CRM Data Engineer role sits within our Data Intelligence function and focuses on data hygiene, audience creation, and platform integration between our Customer Data Platform (Segment) and CRM tool (Braze). You will ensure CRM and marketing data is clean, well-governed, and reliably flowing between platforms, enabling CRM, Product, and Commercial teams to build and target audiences confidently.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on data pipeline work, is comfortable at the intersection of data and marketing, and wants to bring rigour and structure to a fast-moving CRM function. While an interest in CRM and lifecycle marketing is helpful, strong data hygiene discipline and technical rigour are essential.
Key accountabilities include:
- Data Hygiene & Governance: Manage day-to-day data quality including deduplication, validation, and standardisation of customer records and event data, defining hygiene rules and taxonomy with the Data team.
- Audience Creation: Build, test, and maintain customer audiences and segments for Braze campaigns and journeys, translating marketing targeting requirements into technical audience logic.
- Platform Integration: Manage data flow (ETL/reverse-ETL) between Segment and Braze, configure sources, destinations, tracking plans, and troubleshoot sync issues.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Act as the primary data contact for the CRM/Marketing team, shaping requirements and ensuring alignment with wider Data function standards.
- Documentation & Compliance: Document data flows, mappings, and procedures to ensure maintainability and compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR.
- Reporting & Escalation: Provide regular updates on data hygiene status, integration health, and any risks or blockers to the Data Director and CRM function.
Experience
- Hands-on experience with Segment or comparable CDPs (e.g., RudderStack, mParticle), including configuring sources, destinations, and tracking plans.
- Hands-on experience with Braze or similar engagement platforms (e.g., Iterable, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Klaviyo), including audience/segment building and journey/canvas configuration.
- Strong SQL skills with experience working directly with customer and event data models.
- Proven experience with data hygiene practices such as deduplication, validation, standardisation, and consent management.
- Familiarity with ETL/reverse-ETL concepts and troubleshooting data pipeline issues.
- Ability to work independently as a contractor, managing own workstreams with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication skills and confidence working directly with marketing stakeholders while maintaining data rigour.
About you
You are a technically skilled data professional who thrives in a fast-paced environment. You enjoy bridging the gap between data engineering and marketing teams, bringing structure and discipline to CRM data processes. You are proactive, detail-oriented, and able to communicate complex data concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Experience in betting, gaming, racing, or sports data environments is desirable.
- Python or scripting experience for data manipulation is a plus.
- Prior experience working as a contractor or in a similar autonomous role is advantageous.
