About the Role
LMAX Group is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Data Operations Engineer/Developer to join our team and help build and scale our data processing infrastructure. In this role, you will develop high-performance data pipelines, real-time streaming systems, and robust data architectures that power LMAX's growth and Business Intelligence initiatives. You will collaborate with technology and business teams to continuously improve the quality of data that drives decision making within Forex and digital currency trading and custody solutions. This role is ideally suited to a senior-level engineer, but driven mid-level engineers with a growth mindset are encouraged to apply. You will architect, build, and support end-to-end practical and performant solutions, leveraging your broad knowledge and skills. Collaboration with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Platform Engineers, and Operational Business teams is key to designing scalable, efficient, and reliable data solutions that advance LMAX Group.

Experience
- Minimum 3 years in data engineering or backend software development
- Strong Python skills for data retrieval and pipeline development
- Experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tooling such as Terraform or Ansible
- Working knowledge of Kubernetes for container orchestration
- Hands-on experience with several of the following:
  - ETL/ELT orchestration and pipeline tooling (Airflow, Meltano, DBT, etc.)
  - Real-time streaming platforms (Kafka, Redpanda, ActiveMQ, RabbitMQ, etc.)
  - SQL databases, particularly MySQL

You are comfortable architecting and supporting scalable data infrastructure with a focus on performance and reliability. You have a collaborative mindset and can communicate complex technical concepts effectively to diverse stakeholders including engineers, product managers, and business teams. You are proactive in driving automation and tooling improvements and have a strong sense of ownership and responsibility for data quality, security, and governance.

Qualifications
- Desired experience with data warehousing tools and platforms such as Snowflake or Iceberg
- Familiarity with Java programming
- Experience with cloud-based services, particularly AWS
- Proven ability to manage stakeholder expectations and explain complex problems or solutions clearly
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata management, and data security best practices including compliance requirements
