About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Digital, Information, and Security Directorate within the Department for Transport during a period of significant restructuring. The role is pivotal in shaping a sustainable, skilled, and in-house capability to address evolving cyber-security threats and lead the department's digital transformation in line with the Government’s Blueprint for a Modern Digital Government.
As Deputy Director, you will be part of the senior leadership team responsible for driving cultural change through strong leadership and role modelling. You will spearhead the establishment and management of four new service lines: Essentials, Protect, Create, and Advance, enhancing operational efficiency and embedding effective processes.
You will identify future digital requirements, modernise ways of working, and act as a key figurehead for digital provision within the department. This role serves as the primary point of accountability for digital service management, ensuring alignment with government and organisational priorities, optimising resources, maintaining employee trust, and supporting operational excellence.
The Deputy Director will oversee end-to-end service lifecycle management, foster collaboration across teams, and horizon scan to future-proof service delivery, ensuring all services meet organisational goals and government requirements.
Experience
- Extensive experience adapting to various delivery and service management models with a strong understanding of their strengths and limitations.
- Proven ability to identify measurable benefits, ensure value for money, and prioritise effectively across competing demands.
- Strong track record in developing, embedding, and using performance measures and metrics to monitor and improve delivery outcomes.
- Demonstrable leadership experience delivering through matrix management and leading multidisciplinary teams across operations, policy, digital, and delivery.
- Proven experience using user insight to inform strategy and drive continuous improvement, ensuring high-quality, user-centred service delivery.

Qualifications
- Senior Civil Service leadership experience or equivalent.
- Demonstrable evidence of leadership skills suitable for Deputy Director level.
- Relevant professional qualifications or equivalent experience in digital service management or related fields are desirable but not mandatory.
