About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Chef Manager who is passionate about exceptional food and world-class customer service to confidently oversee all Compass Group UK&I catering and service operations for Chartwells. You will be responsible for ensuring kitchens and service counters run smoothly while delivering truly incredible food experiences. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Understanding and delivering all contractual food service requirements
- Ensuring a consistent, elevated, and innovative food offer is available at all times, whether on the counter, at external events, or hospitality
- Ensuring all prepared food is served at correct temperatures and meets menu specifications and standards
- Correct pricing and labelling of retail items in line with Food Safety Legislation
- Communicating on-site client changes to your line manager and maintaining regular client communication including monthly and quarterly reporting
- Completing action plans following client satisfaction and student surveys
- Promoting the unit and acting as a Compass Advocate at all times
- Implementing company promotions and upselling where applicable
- Identifying additional sales or enhanced service opportunities and discussing them with your line manager
- Effectively managing all in-unit costs and working to budgeted performance ratios
- Ensuring full purchasing compliance and accurate sales and cost of sales records
- Recording and minimising all food wastage
- Communicating customer requirements to relevant departments in advance
- Adhering to health, safety, and food safety (HACCP) standards including completing required inductions and e-learning courses
- Reporting and investigating HSE incidents and reviewing work procedures
- Providing appropriate training, instruction, and supervision to employees to ensure safe and effective work practices
- Maintaining up-to-date training records and consulting on HSE matters
- Supporting, training, coaching, and developing the team while monitoring labour turnover and recruitment
- Producing and utilising succession plans
- Encouraging customer participation and implementing action plans
- Holding regular team briefings and planning staff rotas in advance with accurate recording of hours on the Our Time system

Requirements

Experience
- Minimum of two years catering experience
- Experience managing teams in a similar role

Qualifications
- NVQ Level 1 & 2 or City & Guilds 706/1 and 2
