About the Role
The DevOps Engineer role is part of the Technical Live Services team within Cabinet Office Digital. You will help shape the future of UK Government Digital Services by pushing the boundaries of technology to make a tangible difference to millions of lives. The Cabinet Office leads a ground-breaking digital transformation to set a new global benchmark for public services, aiming to deliver world-class digital offerings that make public services digital by default, simpler, clearer, and faster to use.

As a DevOps Engineer, you will design, develop, and implement high-quality, customised digital solutions supporting critical business functions and key project objectives. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, technical architects, and diverse stakeholders, you will gather requirements, integrate complex systems, and ensure the resilience, security, and scalability of infrastructure.

You will support the government in managing and reducing reliance on legacy technology while establishing robust continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines. You will champion modern agile methods, advocate best practices in software development, and foster an open, collaborative environment.

Your work will be motivated by important user-centric public service goals, requiring a proactive approach to problem-solving and a passion for building robust digital services.

Occasional deployment activities may fall outside core office hours. Travel between sites for meetings, events, and collaborative sessions may be required.

Experience
- Proven working experience with cloud platforms, specifically AWS, and cloud service integration.
- Experience developing technical stories using modern tools and practices such as TDD, CI/CD, and DevOps.
- Holistic understanding of whole-system architecture and experience operating, maintaining, and enhancing production services.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and JavaScript, and web frameworks like Django and Node/Next.js.
- Knowledge of at least one relational database management system (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle).
- Ability to quickly research, evaluate, and adopt new programming tools, frameworks, and techniques.
- Good communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Understanding of common security vulnerabilities, threat mitigation, and application/server hardening best practices.
- Experience working within enterprise IT environments and following change management processes.
- Experience with Terraform, CloudFormation, and process automation tools.
