About the Role
The Digital Forensic Unit (DFU) at the Serious Fraud Office is responsible for handling all digital evidence seized or acquired by the organisation. This includes the collection of evidence on site, forensic processing of seized items or those received from third parties, and preparing these items for access by Case Teams through the SFO’s review platform.

As a Digital Forensic Technician, you will carry out a variety of tasks including forensic imaging, extraction of mobile devices, liaising with case teams, validation and testing, and reporting clear and concise progress and findings. Your role is critical in ensuring that digital evidence is processed accurately and efficiently to support investigations.

Key responsibilities include assisting with the acquisition of digital evidence in line with SFO procedures and compliance standards such as the Statutory Forensic Regulator’s Codes and ISO 17025, processing devices for ingestion into the review platform, performing additional data analysis to extract evidential information, maintaining evidence management and investigator records to preserve continuity and integrity, and maintaining and testing laboratory systems.

Experience
Experience in digital forensic techniques and evidence handling is desirable. Familiarity with forensic imaging, mobile device extraction, and data analysis will be advantageous. Experience working within compliance frameworks such as ISO 17025 or forensic regulator codes is beneficial.

You should be detail-oriented, methodical, and able to work collaboratively with case teams. Strong communication skills are essential to report findings clearly and effectively. You must be committed to maintaining the integrity and security of digital evidence and adhere to strict procedural and regulatory standards.

Qualifications
Relevant qualifications in digital forensics, computer science, or related fields are desirable but not mandatory. A willingness to learn and develop within the role is essential.
