About the Role
Are you passionate about making a difference for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in Greenwich? The Early Years Inclusion Service is expanding, creating exciting new roles within the Local Authority to enhance support for early years practitioners and children with additional needs across Royal Greenwich.
As an Early Years Area SENCo, you will work with a designated cluster of private, voluntary, and independent early years settings and child-minders. Your role will focus on early identification of children with SEND, providing indirect support through consultation, collaborative planning with parents/carers, early years practitioners, and other professionals.
You will also work alongside team members to deliver SEN training through the Special Needs training programme. This role is part of the Early Years Inclusion Service, which includes specialist teachers, Early Years Area SENCos, SEND Early Years (0-3yrs) Keyworkers, and outreach workers who promote inclusion across Greenwich schools and early years settings.
These positions support the SEND Reforms, the "Experts at Hand" model, and the development of Best Start Family Hubs, offering a unique opportunity to help shape inclusive practice from the very beginning of a child's educational journey.
The service is looking for a Lead Best Start Inclusion Practitioner and three additional Best Start Inclusion Practitioners to provide dedicated SEND capacity across hubs, strengthen early help and preventative support, support workforce development across early years settings, and improve outcomes for children with emerging and identified SEND.
Experience
Extensive experience working within Early Years settings with a clear understanding of child development and supporting children and families with a range of Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
About you
Committed to inclusion and improving outcomes for children with SEND. Able to work collaboratively with parents, practitioners, and professionals. Enthusiastic about delivering training and supporting workforce development. Able to work effectively within a team and independently across a designated cluster of settings.
Qualifications
Relevant qualifications and experience in Early Years and SEND are expected. A full employment history is required, including satisfactory explanations for any gaps in employment. Candidates will be assessed against the Person Specification for the role.
