About the Role
DISCO is the industry standard for managing, organising and sharing music and other media. We make music and media workflow fast, intuitive and simple, directly connecting people and their work to save time. Our customers include UMG, Sony, Warner Music, Netflix, and Amazon, with over 250,000 people interacting with DISCO each month.
As an Engineering Manager, you will combine technical expertise with strong leadership to guide a team of product engineers in delivering impactful outcomes for DISCO and our customers. You will contribute directly to technical design, implementation, and optimisation within your team’s scope and across the engineering organisation, while supporting engineers to grow their skills and careers.
You will balance hands-on technical problem solving with strategic people management, working closely with product and design peers to prioritise and deliver work that balances feature delivery with quality, performance, and reliability. Collaboration with technical leaders will be key to driving engineering and architecture excellence, alongside supporting our biggest enterprise customers through close partnership with UK-based data and market teams.
As a leader, you will foster a high performance culture of ownership, technical excellence, and collaboration, supporting team autonomy while aligning with broader engineering standards.

Responsibilities
- Define and track OKRs in collaboration with Product and Design, ensuring alignment with strategic goals
- Balance feature development with addressing technical debt and improving system health within a structured Agile process
- Guide thoughtful adoption of AI tooling to efficiently deliver secure, high quality engineering work at scale
- Guide technical discovery, review designs and architecture decisions, and contribute to development when necessary
- Mentor and grow engineers of varying seniority through regular 1:1s, career development plans, and structured feedback
- Foster a culture of engagement, ownership, and technical excellence
- Collaborate closely with Product and Design to ensure technical feasibility and deliver impactful solutions
- Help define and implement engineering standards across teams to ensure consistency in quality, performance, and reliability
- Monitor and maintain engineering health metrics (SLOs, error rates, cycle time, operational costs) to drive process and system improvements
- Oversee incident response and post-mortems to ensure effective resolution and long-term fixes
- Drive continuous improvements in development workflows, testing practices, CI/CD pipelines, and overall engineering efficiency

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience leading a team of engineers in a high-growth or complex product environment
- Strong focus on mentorship, team development, and fostering a strong engineering culture
- Deep understanding of designing, building, and maintaining scalable web applications, APIs, and distributed systems, ideally in SaaS or cloud-based environments
- Experience working closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to align on goals and deliver high-quality solutions
- Familiarity with monitoring, incident response, and maintaining service reliability at scale, including SLOs and observability platforms
- Knowledge of modern software development workflows including CI/CD, testing strategies, and iterative process improvement

About You
- Customer-focused with the ability to deeply understand customer needs and engage in product strategy
- Skilled at balancing business and engineering priorities with data-driven decision making
- Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Passionate about building a strong engineering culture centered on ownership, collaboration, and continuous improvement

Qualifications
- Strong technical expertise in modern backend and frontend technologies, system performance optimisation, and architectural best practices for high-traffic applications
- Bonus skills include experience with React, Typescript, Python, Postgres, modern DevOps practices, cloud infrastructure, and observability tools
- Experience working in high-scale SaaS or cloud-based environments is highly desirable
