This is an exciting time to join the The Finance, Portfolio and Performance (FPP) team. If you have an understanding of the value-adding role of Finance within the public sector, and a genuine commitment to integrating Finance as an enabling function within the business's decision-making, you are the ideal candidate to join this team.
The FPP team is critical to supporting a thriving Parliamentary democracy. We play a leading role in delivering the House of Commons' Strategy and corporate priorities through business and financial planning, analysing performance, and supporting the delivery of projects and programmes across Parliament. Equally important are the financial services, systems, accounting, reporting and Members' services that we provide to keep the House of Commons Service working effectively and efficiently on a day-to-day basis.
The Role
The Financial Planning and Analysis Team set the Medium-Term Financial Plan for the organisation and be involved with in-year financial management, adding value to the numbers by providing insight and analysis. They agree the remit with the relevant House Authorities, prepare the financial planning round, ensuring financial plans align to strategic objectives and monitor performance against these plans.
Some of the responsibilities for this role include:
An understanding of the value-adding role of Finance within the public sector, and a genuine commitment to integrating Finance as an enabling function within the business's decision-making.
Developing an understanding of the business, its stakeholders and deliverables. Building and maintaining relationships with budget holders and Finance Business Partners.
Lead on elements of the medium-term financial plans, ensuring that guidance and support is available to the business and that plans are consistent with the organisation's strategy.
Skills and Experience
It is essential that the applicant holds a level 4 finance qualification (AAT, CCAB or equivalent) and is working towards a level 7 professional qualification (CCAB or equivalent).
Recent experience of operating in a financial environment, with an understand of the core concepts of basic accounting.
Highly competent in Excel and financial systems, with the ability to prepare, analyse and interpret an organisation's financial information (both for internal and external purposes).
Ability to support decision making, by the production of financial reports and analysis that can inform, influence and support senior managers in strategic decision making. With the ability to tailor the communication style to a range of audiences, including internal and external stakeholders.
