Location
London Borough of Bromley, with additional offices in Harrow, Staines, and Walthamstow. This role requires the ability to travel nationally and attend various locations as needed.

Hours
Full Time - 37 hours per week. Working hours may vary between 7:45am and 8:00pm Monday to Friday, and 8:45am to 5:00pm on Saturdays. Flexible working patterns such as part-time, term-time, compressed hours, and job sharing may be considered to meet business needs.

Salary
£45,065 per annum, plus a Civil Service Defined Benefit Pension scheme contribution of £12,314.

About the Role

Join the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) Economic, Serious and Organised Crime (ESOC) team within the Counter Fraud, Compliance and Debt Directorate (CFCD). This vital public service role involves leading criminal or financial investigations into complex and sophisticated organised crime targeting DWP benefits and grants, often linked to wider criminality such as modern slavery, human trafficking, and identity fraud.

You will work collaboratively with multiple law enforcement agencies on high-profile operations involving multi-million-pound criminality. Financial Investigators will conduct confiscation and civil investigations under relevant legislation, supported by specialist training to achieve nationally recognised qualifications.

The role demands adaptability to evolving criminal methods, including money laundering and cryptocurrency use. You will lead investigations, organise arrests and searches, conduct interviews under caution, prepare evidence for prosecution, and provide expert testimony in court.

Experience
Previous experience or qualifications in criminal or financial investigations or law enforcement, preferably from a government body or similar organisation. Proven ability to lead investigations, analyse complex data, and make sound decisions while considering wider impacts. Experience working collaboratively with internal and external partners to achieve common objectives and sharing resources effectively. Demonstrated ability to organise and prioritise workload to ensure timely progression and risk management.

Qualifications
Willingness to attain or already hold relevant professional accreditations such as Accredited Counter Fraud Investigations Program (ACFIP), Counter Fraud Investigator Apprenticeship (CFIA), SAO accreditation via the National Crime Agency, or equivalent. For criminal investigator roles, completion of a mandatory Level 4 Counter Fraud Apprenticeship may be required. Financial investigators must be accredited at the appropriate level via the National Crime Agency to undertake financial investigations. Membership of the Government Counter Fraud Profession (GCFP) at Practitioner level is mandatory and requires annual self-assessment to maintain.
