About the Role
Join a small, dedicated team at Sarah England's Darkroom, producing traditional analogue handprints and scans for the creative and photographic industry. This freelance role requires a passion for analogue photography, strong problem-solving and technical skills, and a meticulous eye for detail to maintain quality under pressured deadlines. Key responsibilities include high-resolution scanning and digital conversion using Epson scanners and SilverFast software, advanced image processing including spotting and colour management, managing daily darkroom tasks such as chemical mixing, maintenance, paper cutting, and black-and-white print processing. You will also handle negatives accurately, set up test prints, maintain organised workflows and archiving of both digital and analogue work, and upload final digital deliverables directly to clients and agencies.
Experience
Proven experience and advanced knowledge of Photoshop, Epson or other scanner models, SilverFast software, and digital image management/retouching. Comfortable using a Wacom tablet and Mac systems. Broad understanding of analogue processing, wet lab workflows, and traditional printing techniques.
About you
A self-motivated, highly organised individual with curiosity and the ability to work well in a client-facing role within a small team environment. Experienced darkroom technicians, candidates with digital printing experience, and professional retouchers will be highly considered.
Qualifications
No formal qualifications specified; however, strong technical skills and relevant experience in analogue and digital photographic processes are essential.
