About the Role
Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust is one of the UK’s busiest and most successful trusts, providing a comprehensive range of hospital and community services across south London and specialist care for patients from further afield, including cancer, renal, orthopaedic, respiratory and cardiovascular services. The Trust is home to the largest dental school in Europe and a £160 million Cancer Centre opened in 2016. It also includes Evelina London Children’s Hospital and has one of the largest critical care units and busiest emergency departments in the UK.

We are seeking an experienced and passionate leader to join us as General Manager for Surgical Oncology within the Cancer & Surgery Clinical Group. This role covers specialist surgical services including Thoracic Surgery, Head & Neck Surgery, Breast and ENT. You will work closely with clinical and operational teams to deliver constitutional standards and lead elective and cancer improvement plans.

The Cancer and Surgery Clinical Group is one of the largest in the Trust, delivering a diverse portfolio of secondary and tertiary services. The General Manager will also lead on the Directorate’s financial performance, driving in-year improvement plans and implementing sustainable changes.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven success in delivering change and performance through management teams by engaging them in strategic direction and delivery plans
- Strong track record of managing risk while maintaining high standards of service delivery
- Experience in developing business plans and managing programmes/projects with positive value for money outcomes
- Evidence of delivering strategic and operational performance management, including business case preparation, service initiation, contract negotiation, and monitoring outcome measures

About you
- Highly experienced leader with strong interpersonal skills and authority, able to foster and manage relationships across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong organisational and resource management skills, capable of forecasting, planning and developing unit capability aligned with business plans
- Proven ability to manage change effectively, building engagement and rewarding innovation
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communicator with credible influence, networking and negotiating skills
- Committed to diversity and inclusion, able to work constructively with internal and external partners to support successful partnership working

Qualifications
- Relevant degree or equivalent professional qualification
- Understanding of the changing NHS environment and its challenges
