About the Role
British Transport Police (BTP) is the national police force for the rail network throughout Great Britain, dedicated to putting passenger safety at the heart of everything we do. We are seeking a GIS Technician to join our Technology Department. In this role, you will provide maintenance and first and second line support for our Geographical Information Mapping System (GIS), playing a key role in the collection, analysis, and management of geographic data to support projects and operational initiatives.

You will maintain accurate GIS databases, produce maps and visualisations, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including engineers, planners, and environmental scientists to ensure operational GIS and location intelligence needs are met. Responsibilities include carrying out monthly and quarterly OS map updates, assisting with system upgrades, patches, and monitoring performance and capacity.

Experience
Significant experience operating GIS software and producing cartographic output.
Proven experience providing application support and problem management to end users.
Knowledge of GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS or other geospatial tools.
Familiarity with geospatial data formats and spatial analysis techniques.

Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
Accredited to ITIL Foundation Level or higher.
Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
