About the Role
We are looking for a Head of Business Affairs to join the National Theatre Strategy Team. The purpose of this role is to provide effective and proactive Business Affairs support and strategic leadership to the co-CEOs, Executive Committee and key senior personnel. You will evaluate emerging commercial opportunities and risks, develop and support strategies relating to creative IP rights live, digitally and globally, and future-proof the National Theatre to thrive in an increasingly complex media and arts landscape. This is a senior role requiring a strategic and entrepreneurial approach to innovation, brand value exploitation, and risk management within the theatre, media and entertainment sectors.

Experience
Proven post-qualification experience in a senior business affairs role as a commercial lawyer, or extensive in-house legal and business experience within the theatre, media or entertainment sector. Strong knowledge of digital, commercial and non-commercial theatre contracts and underlying rights and clearance issues including options, buy outs, distribution agreements, and digital terms and conditions. Broad understanding of how to scale and adapt business models such as licensing, franchising and partnerships to different routes to market (B2B, B2C). Entrepreneurial approach to innovation and experience exploiting brand value for commercial gain with a pragmatic approach to risk. Proactive and collaborative with the ability to work well within a small team and across the organisation.

Qualifications
Relevant professional qualifications and post-qualification experience in law or business affairs within the relevant sectors are essential.
