About the Role
UK Export Finance (UKEF) is a government department and £130 billion financial institution, deploying finance at scale to drive economic growth. We work globally to build economic bridges between the UK and fast-growing markets. This is an exciting time to join UKEF as Ministers have announced plans to expand into new areas including economic security, investment, critical minerals, and supply chains.
The Strategy Division, at the centre of UKEF, sets the department’s direction and converts ambition into impact. It leads UKEF’s strategy, develops the five-year plan, oversees delivery of key commitments, and advises ministers on responding to rapid global change. It also manages governance and communications.
As Head of the Delivery Unit, you will lead the function responsible for turning UKEF’s ambitions into results. Working closely with the Chief Executive, Executive Committee, and senior leaders, you will identify priorities where additional pace, coordination, or challenge can make the greatest difference.
You will lead a portfolio of high-profile projects spanning economic growth, SME support, mobilisation of bank finance, defence and international financing, transaction process improvements, and emerging ministerial priorities. Recent projects include designing a new £50 billion defence facility, overseeing £200m finance supporting Ukraine’s energy grid, developing an £11 billion SME fund with a major high street bank, and leading initiatives to speed up transaction execution.
This role combines strategic judgement with hands-on delivery leadership. You will create clarity where objectives or ownership are uncertain, establish practical plans and accountabilities, use data to identify problems, and bring together colleagues across UKEF and government to overcome barriers.
You will lead some projects directly and enable senior owners and multidisciplinary teams on others by providing structure, evidence, governance, and constructive challenge. You will also shape the Delivery Unit’s future, building a team known for pace, impact, and the ability to make difficult things happen.
