About the Role
At fin-house, we build human-first finance teams for ambitious, fast-growth businesses. Our embedded fractional teams feel like our clients' own, supporting everything from day-to-day operations to board-level strategy. We believe finance should be a growth engine, not a back-office function, and we want our people to outgrow us. Joining as a fin-lead means you will grow faster than almost anywhere else, gaining exposure across multiple industries, business models, and finance levels that a single in-house role cannot offer.
As a fin-lead, you will head up finance across a portfolio of 5-7 clients, providing forecasting, planning, and commercial insight. You will challenge thinking, assess risk, shape decisions, and connect day-to-day performance with long-term strategy. You will build and lead high-performing teams underneath you to scale impact. While you are not the CFO, you are the trusted finance voice in the room, turning finance into a tool founders actually use.
This role offers the fastest finance leadership track we know. In 18 months, you will gain experience that typically takes a decade in a single in-house role. You will work directly with founders on critical conversations such as fundraising, scaling, and making difficult decisions. Your portfolio will span multiple sectors including SaaS, fintech, e-commerce, hospitality, and climate, providing unparalleled breadth of experience. The next step after this role is FD, and eventually CFO. We provide the experience, coaching, and network to help you get there.
Key responsibilities include owning the financial narrative across your clients—P&L, cash flow, balance sheet—translating complexity into clear guidance founders can act on; managing operational finance functions such as AP, AR, payroll, and VAT; leading budgeting, forecasting, and scenario planning; building sophisticated financial models for fundraising, M&A, and investment decisions; challenging assumptions and flagging risks early; coaching and developing fin-managers and fin-operators (typically 2-3 direct reports); driving systems and process improvements, especially around Xero configuration and usage; and contributing to fin-house growth through referrals, relationship building, and brand representation.
Experience
Minimum 7 years' experience in an accountancy or finance role. Proven track record as the sole or most senior finance person in a scaling business. Experience building a finance function from the ground up rather than inheriting one. Experience advising founders directly and making autonomous decisions without a safety net. Experience working with a portfolio of clients is highly desirable.
About you
Ambitious and driven to become a CFO or FD, seeking accelerated career progression beyond what a single in-house role can offer. Energised by variety and agility, comfortable managing different sectors and stakeholders simultaneously. Motivated to develop and coach team members, contributing to a culture of high performance. Passionate about the impact finance can have on business decisions and change, not just number crunching. Curious and constantly seeking ways to improve processes for yourself, clients, and the team. Committed to being part of a close-knit culture that learns and enjoys time together beyond just working alongside each other.
Qualifications
An accountancy qualification (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) is desirable; strong alternative career paths will also be considered. Proficient in Excel and/or Google Sheets. Experience with Xero and/or QuickBooks is highly desirable.
