About the Role
In 2020, Lane Clark & Peacock (LCP) launched its Health practice, providing analytical and research services across healthcare and life sciences. The team combines clinicians, statisticians, epidemiologists, health economists and health data scientists with LCP’s actuarial, analytics and technology expertise to develop innovative solutions to key challenges in health.
We are seeking a Health Automation Engineer to help scale our delivery capability by transitioning from bespoke delivery to scalable, standardised and repeatable services. This role involves designing and building automation, data pipelines, technical infrastructure and reusable components that improve efficiency, quality and consistency across projects, while supporting advanced analytics and AI-enabled tools.
This is an exciting opportunity to apply modern engineering and automation approaches to complex, high-impact problems in healthcare and life sciences.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and build automation tools and applications to support scalable delivery of core health analytics services
- Develop and maintain reliable, production-grade technical infrastructure
- Automate and improve workflows across data processing, analysis and reporting
- Support deployment, monitoring and maintenance of applications, including AI and LLM-based tools
- Contribute to reusable components, frameworks and templates to standardise delivery
- Implement testing, validation and monitoring to improve robustness and maintainability
- Identify opportunities to improve data management, engineering processes and delivery approaches
- Support cloud-based architecture, particularly in Azure, focusing on performance, resilience and scalability
- Collaborate with clinicians, analysts, statisticians, epidemiologists and health economists to translate analytical requirements into engineering solutions
- Ensure secure, reliable and governed use of automation and AI tools, especially with sensitive health data
- Promote good engineering practices including documentation, code review, version control and continuous improvement
Experience
- Minimum 2:1 degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline
- Experience in data engineering, software engineering or similar role, ideally within UK healthcare or life sciences
- Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably Azure (AWS/GCP also acceptable)
- Strong programming skills, ideally Python, with experience developing applications beyond scripting
- Experience building data pipelines and/or production-grade applications
- Familiarity with AI/LLM-based tooling or applications
- Experience working with sensitive data or in environments requiring traceability, reproducibility and quality assurance is advantageous
About You
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a practical approach to complex technical and operational challenges
- Outcomes-focused, designing effective and usable solutions
- Comfortable working in a small, dynamic multidisciplinary team
- Able to lead day-to-day project activities with support from senior team members
- Initiative and creativity in approach to work
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders
- Strong organisational skills
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Azure services such as Databricks, Azure Data Factory, Azure Functions, Logic Apps or App Service
- Front-end web development experience (e.g. Vue or React)
- Knowledge of C#, Java or TypeScript
