About the Role
The Import / Export Specialist is responsible for coordinating and administering the end-to-end documentation and operational processes required to move goods internationally. This role ensures all import and export activities comply with customs regulations, trade legislation, and company procedures, enabling timely, cost-effective, and compliant movement of goods across borders. Key responsibilities include developing and implementing efficient, compliant processes for international shipments; ensuring compliance with local and international customs regulations, trade controls, and HMRC requirements; maintaining up-to-date knowledge of import/export legislation, duties, VAT, and trade agreements; facilitating the preparation and processing of import and export documentation with accurate tariff classification, customs valuation, and application of Incoterms; building and maintaining customs agent instruction sheets and reviewing agent-filed declarations for accuracy; coordinating shipments with freight forwarders, carriers, customs brokers, and internal stakeholders; tracking shipments and proactively resolving delays, discrepancies, or clearance issues. Additionally, the role owns AVK's CBAM compliance across EU and UK regimes, including tracking tonnage against the EU's 50-tonne annual threshold and preparing for UK CBAM's mandatory reporting from January 2027. The specialist maintains a forward-looking view of CBAM-scope materials across pipeline projects, flagging exposure at quoting and tender stages rather than after volumes are committed. Success is measured by on-time customs clearance and shipment delivery, accuracy of documentation and customs declarations, compliance with customs and trade regulations, reduction in delays, penalties, and additional freight costs, and effective CBAM tonnage tracking with no unplanned threshold crossings.
