10 South Colonnade, Canary Wharf, London. This role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.

Hours
Full Time, permanent position. The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency is implementing a flexible, hybrid working model requiring a minimum of 8 days per month on site, with potential to increase to 12 days depending on business needs. Remote working may be available for some specific roles, subject to discussion with the recruiting manager.

About the Role
We are seeking an Infrastructure Operations Engineer to join the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD) Team within the Safety and Surveillance group. The successful candidate will support and enhance the UK Government’s premier data-driven health research service by maintaining and improving CPRD’s Azure cloud platforms and research services. This role involves ensuring secure, resilient, and highly available cloud infrastructure that underpins CPRD’s research environments, data platforms, and business-critical services.

Key responsibilities include maintaining effective operation of research IT systems, developing and implementing IT service improvements, managing incidents and resolving problems, and liaising with service providers and partners. You will work closely with internal stakeholders, technical teams, and external suppliers to ensure operational excellence and contribute to strategic initiatives and innovative research platforms used by healthcare researchers across the UK.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience managing IT infrastructure in an Azure cloud environment.
- Strong understanding of Azure services including computing, storage, networking, and identity management.
- Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps, automation tools such as PowerShell and Azure CLI, and configuration management.
- Familiarity with Active Directory and role-based access control (RBAC).
- Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and compliance standards in cloud environments.
- Experience using business information management systems to monitor, track, and report data usage.
- Knowledge of project management techniques to deliver outcomes, identify risks, and implement mitigating actions.

You are able to investigate and resolve technical issues, support infrastructure changes, and contribute to service improvements. You work well with internal and external stakeholders and are committed to delivering operational excellence in a dynamic environment.

Qualifications
- Educated to degree level or equivalent in computer science, information technology, mathematics, or a related discipline, or hold professional industry qualifications such as ITIL Foundation.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or Azure Solutions Architect Expert are desirable.
- Awareness of IT service management and change control procedures.
