Hours
Full Time, Permanent. Flexible hybrid working with a minimum of 8 days per month on site, typically ranging up to 12 days depending on business needs. The remainder of the time can be worked remotely or in the office.

About the Role
We are seeking an Innovation Expert - Medical to join the Innovation and Compliance Function within the Scientific Research and Innovation group at the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). This role provides authoritative, strategic scientific and regulatory leadership on emerging healthcare innovations, including artificial intelligence, ensuring patient safety and public health protection while enabling timely access to new and transformative products. The Innovation Accelerator supports and enables innovation in healthcare products through expert guidance and policy development.

The key responsibilities include providing senior regulatory and scientific leadership, acting as lead advisor on complex cross-agency regulatory issues, leading and coordinating multi-disciplinary expert teams, and developing guidance and policy position statements.

The MHRA is committed to enhancing and improving the health of millions through effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, underpinned by science and research. The Innovation and Compliance Group delivers public health impact and world-leading research innovation across five sub-groups, including the Innovation Accelerator.

Requirements

Experience
Broad and expert scientific and regulatory experience applicable to supporting the Innovation Accelerator's ambitions. Proven ability to work at senior levels as a systems leader delivering high-impact projects and collaborating with multiple stakeholders. Experience in regulatory, academic, or industry settings with demonstrable contributions to innovation or healthcare product development.

About you
Ability to problem solve, apply evidence-based judgement, and make decisions in challenging environments. Strong interpersonal skills with experience facilitating teamwork and consulting across disciplines. Demonstrated capability to see the big picture, communicate effectively, influence key stakeholders, and deliver change and improvements.

Qualifications
Degree in Medicine with relevant postgraduate qualifications in specialist areas. Registered with the General Medical Council. Broad understanding of UK and/or global regulatory frameworks and policy context for medicines and/or devices.
