About the Role
As an Investigations Manager – Core Business, you will be part of a dynamic investigations team working locally and nationally within the Investigation, Oversight and Casework directorate. You will set investigation direction, understand capacity and make decisions on cases. Alongside other Investigations Managers, you will provide strategic leadership to teams of investigators, ensuring delivery of high-quality, robust, and independent investigations while demonstrating the organisation's values.

You will have line management responsibility for a team of Investigations Team Leaders – Core Business and be accountable for the quality, timeliness, and efficiency of investigations.

Main responsibilities include providing strategic direction and operational leadership, ensuring consistent delivery against policy and performance targets, participating in the IOPC Transformation programme, managing and developing investigation teams, minimising organisational risk, leading decision making on cases, and promoting a culture of inclusion and cultural competence.

The role involves regular exposure to distressing and potentially traumatic material. The organisation offers a range of wellbeing provisions including Trauma Risk Management (TRiM), peer support, a dedicated Wellbeing Advisor, and confidential counselling. Staff are encouraged to engage proactively with these supports.

Requirements

Experience
- Proven experience leading and managing teams in complex, high-profile investigations, ideally within regulatory, oversight, or public sector contexts
- Strong track record providing strategic direction to ensure delivery of high-quality, independent, and robust investigations
- Experience driving teams to deliver high performance and continuous improvement
- Proven experience investigating or leading investigations
- Ability to oversee and direct teams including workforce planning, resource allocation, and managing investigation priorities
- Experience in financial management including budgeting and cost control
- Knowledge of investigations methodology and principles applied to complex and challenging cases
- Experience working as part of a senior management team to develop and implement strategic vision
- Experience managing disclosure in complex investigations
- Experience leading teams through significant change and motivating staff to embrace new ways of working

Desirable Experience
- Experience working in a matrix management structure
- Valid driving license for England and Wales

Desirable Skills
- Understanding of policing in the UK

Qualifications
- Basic DBS clearance is required
