About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join the dynamic Investment Banking EMEA M&A franchise at J.P. Morgan. The EMEA Shareholder Engagement and M&A Capital Markets ("SEAMAC") team is a critical part of the firm's globally integrated investment banking model and M&A practice. The team advises clients on all aspects of activism defence—from preparedness through live activism campaigns—as well as capital markets. The EMEA SEAMAC team is expanding its market-leading activist defence franchise, offering a unique chance to contribute to building a distinctive franchise with significant senior sponsorship under J.P. Morgan's world-class banner.
As an analyst, you will play an important role advising clients on activist defence preparedness and live campaign defence for corporates across industries and countries in EMEA. You will work alongside expert professionals at a leading global investment bank, gaining exposure to formal training, hands-on learning, continuous mentoring, and numerous development opportunities. You will develop strong skills in key investment banking areas and have the opportunity to take on increasing responsibility in originating, supporting, and executing activist defence mandates.
Key responsibilities include developing proprietary knowledge of activist defence and shareholder activism transactions, understanding activist campaigns globally, supporting pitch preparation and live campaign defence, producing high-quality deliverables such as attack and rebuttal materials, investor presentations, and Board materials, and leveraging the Bank's resources across industry, country, and product teams to deliver strategic client dialogue and shareholder activism defence engagements.
Experience
Preferably relevant experience in activist defence, activism/shareholder engagement roles (e.g., at activist funds or advisers), M&A, or Equity Capital Markets. Prior exposure to activist defence preparation and live campaign mandates on activist defence teams at an investment bank is highly desirable.
About you
Highly organised, detail-oriented, and proactive with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment managing multiple projects and tight deadlines. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate concepts clearly and defend their validity. Strong collaborative skills to work across industry and country teams.
Qualifications
Deep knowledge of corporate finance and accounting with outstanding financial analysis skills. Solid understanding of equity markets, trading dynamics, key institutional shareholders, and hedge funds in EMEA. In-depth understanding of investment banking products and solid project management skills. This role involves regulated activity; the successful candidate will be subject to regulatory requirements regarding fitness, propriety, knowledge, and competence assessments and approvals as appropriate.
