About the Role
We are a leading global asset management firm with over 3,000 employees across 20 offices in 15 countries, helping millions of investors pursue their financial goals. Join a vibrant engineering community that values diversity, hard work, and continuous learning. As a Java Back-End Developer on our Short-Term Desk Technology team, you will be highly motivated to use agentic engineering patterns and tools to aggressively advance our business, which manages over $2 trillion USD. This role focuses on building the next generation of trading and cash management systems used across our Short Term, Cash, and Collateral desks. You will work on modernizing existing platforms, developing new cloud-native services, and contributing to our broader migration toward AWS. The role offers close collaboration with front office stakeholders and ownership across the full software lifecycle.
Core Engineering responsibilities include designing, building, and maintaining high quality, scalable microservices using the latest versions of Java and modern frameworks. You will develop new functionality while evolving existing components with clean, maintainable, well-tested code, applying TDD, good CI/CD practices, and strong engineering standards.
In Cloud & Platform Modernization, you will contribute to cloud migration initiatives by building containerized, cloud-ready services and working with AWS services such as Lambda, EKS, RDS, S3, and MSK to move workloads off legacy environments. You will also participate in improving observability through metrics, tracing, and logging.
In AI & Automation, you will use applied AI tooling (e.g., GitHub Copilot, MCP servers, and LLMs) to accelerate development, improve testing quality, and streamline operational automation. You will identify and implement opportunities for intelligent automation within systems, including anomaly detection, documentation generation, and automated runbooks.
Business Collaboration is key, as you will work directly with portfolio managers, traders, and operations teams to deliver high impact solutions, understanding front office workflows and translating them into robust, performant technical designs.
PIMCO continuously invests in a high-performance and inclusive culture that celebrates diversity of backgrounds, experiences, and viewpoints. We encourage career mobility, offer education reimbursements, ongoing training, and run pro bono technology programs to support the non-profit community. Our people are our greatest asset, and we provide opportunities to learn and grow while delivering impactful technology solutions.
Experience
3-5 years of strong experience with Java and back-end development. Familiarity with microservices, REST APIs, and event-driven architectures. Some exposure to AWS or cloud-native engineering concepts such as containers, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code. Interest or experience in using AI tools to boost productivity including code generation, test creation, and documentation.
About you
A proactive mindset with eagerness to learn and ability to work in a fast-moving front office environment. Strong communication skills and a desire to partner closely with business users. You thrive in a collaborative culture, enjoy solving complex real-world business problems, and are willing to debate technical trade-offs. You are a doer who wants to grow your career and gain experience across technologies and business functions.
Qualifications
Relevant technical background with demonstrated ability to design, build, and maintain scalable software solutions. Commitment to applying best engineering practices including TDD and CI/CD. A passion for continuous learning and embracing new technologies, including cloud and AI-driven development tools.
