About the Role
Southwark College is seeking a passionate, proactive and student-focused Learning Mentor to join our team. This is a rewarding opportunity to support learners aged 16–18, helping them achieve academic success, develop personal resilience and build the skills needed for progression into higher education, employment and adult life.

As a Learning Mentor, you will play a central role in supporting study programmes and enhancing the student experience. You will deliver engaging tutorials, provide one-to-one and group guidance, monitor learner progress and work closely with teaching and support staff to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed.

You will be instrumental in helping students develop confidence, motivation, employability skills and a greater sense of ownership over their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities
- Deliver group tutorials aligned to the college tutorial programme.
- Support students with topics such as study skills, employability, UCAS, progression opportunities, work experience and personal development.
- Monitor learner attendance, progress and engagement, providing targeted interventions where needed.
- Build positive relationships with students and encourage active participation in college life.
- Deliver e-PLP activities and accurately record learner interactions on college systems.
- Work collaboratively with academic teams, student services and external agencies to support student success.
- Signpost and refer students to specialist support services where appropriate.
- Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity and inclusion across all activities.
- Participate in open days, enrolment events and parents’ evenings as required.

Requirements

Experience
- Experience supporting young people in an education, youth work, charity or similar setting.
- Knowledge and experience of safeguarding children and young people.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour positively and effectively.
- Excellent communication, organisational and administrative skills.
- Ability to work confidentially and handle sensitive information appropriately.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to delivering outstanding support for learners.

Qualifications
- Maths and English qualification at Level 2 or above.
- Desirable qualifications include Mentoring, Information Advice and Guidance (IAG), Youth Work or Youth Justice qualification.
- Teaching or tutorial delivery experience is advantageous.
- PTLLS Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards it.
- Safeguarding qualification is desirable.
- Experience working in a diverse and multicultural environment.
- Knowledge of Further Education and local employment opportunities is beneficial.
