About the Role
We are seeking a Legal Practice Support Officer to join our busy and supportive Legal Support team. You will work within a sensitive and confidential legal environment, providing essential administrative and financial support to over 60 lawyers across Legal Services and other departments within Surrey County Council. Your responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with financial processes, maintaining information databases, and acting as a guardian for the case management system, iCasework. You will prepare reports, create and amend documents, answer telephone calls, and manage legal library subscriptions and county deeds administration, which requires physical attendance on a rota basis. The role involves opening, retrieving, archiving, and physically handling legal files, so some manual handling is required. You will work cooperatively as part of a team to deliver seamless business support, prioritising work effectively and meeting strict deadlines while maintaining confidentiality and attention to detail.

Our Offer to You
26 days’ holiday, rising to 28 days after 2 years’ service and 31 days after 5 years’ service
Option to buy up to 10 days of additional annual leave
A generous local government salary-related pension
Up to 5 days of carer’s leave and 2 paid volunteering days per year
Paternity, adoption and dependents leave
An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) to support health and wellbeing
Access to a learning and development hub with a wealth of resources
Wellbeing and lifestyle discounts including gym, travel, and shopping
A chance to make a real difference to the lives of our residents

Local Government Reorganisation
Surrey County Council is undergoing Local Government Reorganisation, moving from a two-tier system to two new unitary councils in April 2027. If employed on 1st April 2027, your role will transfer with current terms and conditions to one of the new organisations, supporting local devolution and greater powers for our communities. Join our dynamic team and help build a brighter future for our residents.

Requirements

Experience
Previous relevant work experience is required, including familiarity with financial processes or structured administrative procedures. Experience using IT systems or databases to support administrative or business processes is essential.

About you
Excellent organisational and IT skills with the ability to prioritise and plan your own workload in the context of conflicting priorities. Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to build sound relationships with customers and colleagues. Ability to work under pressure, meet strict deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality. A cooperative team player who provides seamless business support.

Qualifications
Minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade C or above, or equivalent, or able to evidence ability at an equivalent level. Competent in a range of IT tools relevant to the role.
