About the Role
We are recruiting a Local Area Coordinator to be based in the New Addington community. Local Area Coordination is a specific approach to helping people build a positive vision for their lives, develop a plan to achieve that vision, and to ‘walk alongside’ people as they take positive action themselves. As a Local Area Coordinator, you will be embedded in the local area, working directly with individuals, families, and the wider community. You will become a familiar and trusted point of contact for local people.
You will use a person-centred and strengths-based approach to support people in improving their health and wellbeing, building resilience, strengthening natural networks, and navigating complex systems. Your role will be vital in helping communities grow stronger, more inclusive, and more connected.
This is a rewarding, highly relationship-focused role where no two days are the same. There will be occasional work outside normal office hours, including evenings and weekends.
While driving is not essential, approximately 80% of your working week will be spent out in the community. You must be able to work within New Addington and travel around the local area, which may involve significant periods of walking, standing, and moving between locations. Candidates with a valid UK driving licence and access to a car are preferred.
Experience
Proven experience supporting marginalised individuals and families from diverse backgrounds in a similar role. Strong knowledge of safeguarding practices and the ability to carry out dynamic risk assessments while complying with procedures.
About you
Excellent local knowledge of Croydon and specifically the New Addington area. Strong listening and communication skills with a genuine commitment to working with people. Skilled in strengths-based, person-centred, and holistic approaches, helping people shape and pursue their own goals. Excellent relationship-building and creative, independent problem-solving abilities. Good knowledge of the health and social care system and other statutory and voluntary services. Cultural and inclusive competence.
Qualifications
No specific qualifications are stated; however, a solid understanding of safeguarding and relevant experience is essential. A valid UK driving licence and access to a car are preferred but not mandatory.
