About the Role
We are seeking a Medical Assessor to join the Innovative Medicines Function within the Health Quality and Access group at the Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA). The role involves assessing the clinical and regulatory aspects of initial and variation marketing authorisation applications for chemical or biological medicinal products across various therapeutic areas, including complex issues for adult and paediatric patients. Reporting to the Team or Function Manager, you will critically appraise clinical data, contribute to policy and procedures, share knowledge, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. This role supports the MHRA’s mission to enhance public health through effective regulation of medicines and medical devices, ensuring quality and robust decision-making on healthcare access including accelerated access pathways.
Experience
Clinical, academic or pharmaceutical medicine experience including analysis of complex data, decision-making, and preparation of comprehensive, authoritative reports, scientific publications or regulatory submissions. Experience in immunology or oncology is advantageous but other specialist clinical areas are also welcome.
About you
Ability to critically analyse clinical and scientific information from diverse sources including clinical trials and observational studies. Ability to make independent decisions on the benefit-risk balance of medicines with clear rationale. Excellent verbal and written communication skills tailored to various audiences including patients, expert medical groups, and committees. Strong interpersonal skills to facilitate teamwork, consulting, and cooperation across disciplines and expertise levels.
Qualifications
Degree in Medicine with a relevant postgraduate qualification in a specialist area. Registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and holding a licence to practise or eligible and willing to obtain/reactivate a licence upon joining the Agency. Up-to-date specialist knowledge in one or more relevant scientific areas. Good knowledge of regulations applicable to the licensing of medicinal products.
