About the Role
Join Motorola Solutions as a Network Engineer within the Shared Platform services team, playing a key role in planning, designing, and implementing new networking solutions while supporting existing critical infrastructure. You will work on Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) platforms supporting products deemed critical national infrastructure, including Guardian, a call taking and dispatching platform used by emergency services across the UK and Europe, and Pronto, a digital notebook service aiding frontline police officers with information access, digital evidence collection, and location services.

The team is divided into networking, virtualisation, and infrastructure streams, collaborating closely to manage all aspects of the infrastructure. You will thrive in this role if you are eager to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment, engage in diverse projects, and maintain demanding Service Level Agreements for hosted solutions.

Key responsibilities include managing networking operations across multiple sites, maintaining firewall rules and routing policies, designing and updating network documentation, working with third-party vendors to resolve outages, conducting capacity planning and performance tuning, ensuring compliance with security policies such as ISO 27001 and Cyber Essentials, supporting incident management, and continuous professional development.

Travel to internal and customer sites across the UK is required, with possible international travel.

Experience
- Minimum 3 years in a similar network engineering role.
- Ability to attain NPPV3 and SC security clearance (UK residency for minimum 5 years required).
- Strong understanding of Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking concepts including VLANs, routing protocols, subnetting, and STP.
- Hands-on experience with Aruba switches or similar vendors (Cisco, HP, Juniper).
- Experience managing and troubleshooting private circuits and WAN technologies (DIA, IPSEC over internet, EWLs).
- Proficient with routing protocols OSPF and BGP, multi-site routing topologies, and troubleshooting routing issues.
- Administration of large firewall estates (Fortinet, Checkpoint), including firewall rulesets, NAT, UTM features, IDS/IPS policies, and VPN technologies (IPSEC, IKEV2).
- Experience with packet capture and analysis tools such as Wireshark.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools (Grafana, Prometheus, Solarwinds, Fortianalyser).
- Knowledge of security best practices in network deployments.

Desirable Experience
- Experience with SD-WAN solutions, including Fortinet SD-WAN.
- Basic understanding of SD-WAN configuration (overlay/underlay, path selection, link monitoring).
- Experience with SIP technologies.
- Experience with SDN technologies such as VMware NSX, Cisco ACI, OVN.
- Experience with RedHat OpenShift solutions.
