About the Role
Join Camden Council’s Noise and Pollution team and play a vital role in protecting citizens from the negative impacts of noise and pollution, ensuring a safe, pleasant, and properly regulated environment. You will work within Camden’s daytime noise and pollution team, managing a wide range of regulatory functions including construction, licensed applications, domestic noise, planning applications, environmental pollution, and contaminated land.

As an experienced, fully qualified, and authorised officer, you will take responsibility for delivering the full range of noise and pollution functions, providing resilience to the wider Public Protection service by responding flexibly to a broad range of environmental and public health functions.

Your duties will include leading investigations and resolving complaints related to pollution, conducting routine and unplanned site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with legislation, negotiating and mediating between parties, and using legal enforcement powers when necessary. This includes preparing cases and presenting evidence in court, licensing, and planning committees to achieve positive outcomes.

You will also develop and deliver special projects, policies, and research within your areas of expertise. The role offers substantial autonomy, involving report writing, resolution, preventative, and advisory work.

Working within an empowered, team-focused service, you will collaborate with colleagues to share knowledge and decision-making responsibilities, including deputising for managers as appropriate. Alternative flexible working options are available and open to discussion.

Experience in investigation, negotiation, mediation, and enforcement action is essential. Ability to prepare complex legislative documentation, reports, and present cases in court and at committees.

About you
Organised and able to manage your own workload effectively while balancing conflicting priorities. Strong customer service focus with the ability to identify innovative and creative approaches to complaints and organisational objectives.

Committed to working flexibly within a team environment, sharing knowledge and responsibility for complex decision-making.

Qualifications
Relevant specialist qualifications such as BSc/MSc or Diploma in Environmental Health and the EHRB Certificate of Registration or equivalent.

Competence in the full range of noise and pollution requirements is essential. Ideally, you will also hold qualifications or experience in pollution specialisms such as noise and nuisance, contaminated land, or environmental permitting.
